If you live in Texas (or anywhere hot), you know that the summer heat can be relentless. With temperatures soaring above 100 degrees, shooting outdoors can quickly become uncomfortable and challenging.  Say goodbye to ruined hair and makeup and hello to stunning photos in a controlled environment. Don’t have a great office or a perfectly styled home of your own? Don’t worry, I’ve listed a few options that can provide the perfect backdrop for your next session.

Natural Light Studios:

One excellent option for indoor photoshoots is a natural light studio. These versatile spaces offer a blank canvas for your creative vision. With their large size, white walls, light-colored floors, and a variety of furniture options, natural light studios provide endless possibilities for capturing beautiful images. The focus is on the subject, allowing you to tell your story without any distracting backgrounds. Plus, each client brings their unique style, ensuring that every shoot in the studio has its distinct charm.

Tips for Natural Light Studios:

  • Bring accessories and props that align with your brand’s aesthetic
  • Use colorful pillows to add a pop of color and create a unique look
  • Let your clothing choices reflect your personality and help you stand out
  • Embrace your artistic flair and make the most of the blank canvas provided by the studio

Natural light studios in DFW typically run between $75 – $150 per hour

Home Rentals:

If you’re looking for a more personalized and intimate setting, renting a luxury home can be a great option. Platforms like Peerspace and Home Studio List offer a range of stunning properties available for rent by the hour. These homes are perfect for lifestyle photos, team headshots, group shots, and product photography. These homes are already approved for photography/ videography; However, keep in mind that if you book a home through Airbnb or VRBO, it’s essential to obtain a photo release to ensure you can use the photos for your marketing without any issues.

Tips for Home Rentals:

  • Choose a home that aligns with your brand’s image, whether it’s contemporary, modern, or traditional
  • Consider the colors used in the home and coordinate your outfits accordingly
  • Utilize each room to its full potential and plan creative ways to incorporate different spaces
  • Stay true to yourself and showcase how you would genuinely use the home in your daily life
    • I had a client one time that told me ahead of time that she loved pictures of others sitting on the floor barefoot, but that just wasn’t her. She didn’t want to be on the floor and she definitely didn’t want to be barefoot. Be true to yourself.

Home rentals in DFW typically run between $150 – $200 per hour.

Co-Working Spaces and Common Areas

Another option when looking for an indoor space is utilizing the common areas of a hotel lobby, coffee shop or coworking space. These spaces can provide a great backdrop for a more commercial feel or “real life” look. These spaces can provide an interesting backdrop for your brand photos. Before shooting in public spaces, it’s always a good idea to be aware of any policies or permissions required. Although they are technically public areas, the management may feel differently about you using the space for personal promotion.

Your options?

  1. Don’t ask, apologize later
  2. Buy something from the coffee shop or restaurant and ask the waitress
  3. Call ahead and get approval for the shoot.

Tips for Public Spaces:

  • Be mindful of the possibility of being asked to leave and plan accordingly
  • Consider the size of your shoot and the importance of the location when deciding on the approach
  • Co-working spaces may require a day pass or photo pass, so be prepared for any associated fees

I hope this blog was helpful as you decide how to beat the heat this summer! Whether you choose a natural light studio, a rented home, or a co-working space, each option offers its own advantages.

Ready to book a session? Let’s chat about your business needs and find the ideal space that aligns with your brand’s vision. Don’t let the heat hold you back from showcasing your business in its best light.
